From19th of July application of these restrictions was carried out. It included increased overall passenger screening. It also suggests increased screening of personal electronic devices the passengers are carrying on board, better security protocols around the aircraft and in areas for passengers. The security measures included extended usage of modern technology, increased canine screening and installation of additional pre-clearance locations.

It also implied that any device which is bigger than a smartphone for example a tablet or iPad. These  devices are required to be inspected by the security personnel. These restrictions instructs  passengers to remove their devices from casing and keep them fully charged. It will make the security personnel to inspect them with ease.

The enhanced security measures were in response to the threat of terrorism, according to US Homeland Security.

“The United States and the global aviation community face an adaptive and agile enemy,” says a statement on its website.

“Terrorist groups continue to target passenger aircraft, and we have seen a ‘spider web’ of threats to commercial aviation as terrorists pursue new attack methods.”

Homeland Security is also initiating “heightened security standards” for airports and aircraft.

Almost 280 airports throughout the world will be applying these security measures . These are the airports which take flights back to the US.

Airlines also have warned the passengers to allow extra time for checking at the airport to pass through security.

Air Canada has also cautioned the travelers to allow extra time at the airport for security checking before boarding.


Air Canada updated the advice on their website they said US department of Homeland security has implemented certain security measures. The passengers should arrive at the airport 2 hours ahead of their time of departure. This will allow for additional screening time

DHS introduced security measures that will require enhanced screening of electronic devices for example tablets and laptops  All personal electronic devices larger than a smartphone will need to be easily accessible and have all cases, cover and/or packaging removed.

WestJet also suggested reaching to the airport before two hours of flying. They are also advising passengers to reach the gate early.

“Arrive earlier at your departure gate than you would normally. We recommend a minimum of 45 minutes prior to departure time,” it said on its website.
